Why Good Design is Never "Finished"

Many people believe that design is just about picking pretty colors or cool fonts. But at BrainXercises, we see design as a living process—a continuous journey toward clarity, atmosphere, and better experiences for your brain.

Today, I want to take you "behind the scenes" of our latest covers for the Sherlock Holmes and Cthulhu collections.

From Concept to Piece

Design isn't just about aesthetics; it's about storytelling.

  • The Sherlock Redesign: While the first version captured the Victorian spirit, the new version (V2) brings a tactile reality to the mystery. The addition of the magnifying glass over an actual aging document makes you feel like the detective before you even open the first page.

  • The Geometry of Madness: For Cthulhu, we moved from a silhouette to a hauntingly detailed immersion. The new cover literally pulls you into the "dark waters" of the Great Old Ones, matching the intensity of the puzzles inside.

A better cover isn't just to look good on a shelf. It prepares your mind for the challenge. When the theme is strong, your focus sharpens.

  • Iteration is Key: Just like solving a complex Sudoku, design requires trial and error. You start with a lead, you test it, and you refine it until every piece clicks into place.

  • Never Stop Reinventing: We believe that everything can be improved. This philosophy of constant refinement is the same one we hope to inspire in our readers as they tackle our daily exercises.

To Masterpiece

Looking at these designs today, I have a confession to make: I see them as cowardly attempts.

Despite the improvement, I realize that I didn't fully surrender to the darkness of Cthulhu or the sharp, cold logic of Holmes. I let self-doubt act as a filter, softening the blow and playing it safe when I should have been visceral. I held back when I should have dived in.

These covers are the result of a creator fighting his own shadows, but they are not the final word. For the next versions, the hesitation is over. I’m grabbing the bull by the horns. No more compromises, no more half-measures. I’m going to embrace the true soul of these themes with the intensity they deserve. The real work starts now.
